Malachy Shivnan
Body in Motion was founded by Mal Shivnan and his wife Sarah in 2002. In 2001, while completing his Masters in Manipulative Physiotherapy, Mal was awarded the Mark Steptoe Memorial Prize for attaining the best overall standard in postgraduate manipulative physiotherapy. Mal also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Sports Medicine and a Bachelor of Physical Education degree. Mal has worked extensively with elite sports teams and athletes and is a carded provider for the New Zealand Academy of Sport.

Kathy RobertsDip Physio, Dip MT, ADP (MT), MNZSPKathy has more than 20 years experience and post-graduate qualifications in orthopaedic manual therapy, manipulative therapy, sport and recreation and acupuncture. Kathy has a strong reputation in resolving chronic spinal problems. Kathy’s areas of interest include manual therapy (in particular treatment of cervical headaches), core stabilisation, manipulation and connective tissue release. |

Sonia FinchamDip Phty, Dip MT, PGDip Sports Med, PGDip Acup, NZ Reg Physio Acup, Reg Toyohai Acup, MCNZSonia’s specialties include sports medicine, acupuncture, rehabilitation and clinical Pilates. She has extensive post-graduate training, including diplomas in manual therapy and sports medicine. Sonia is registered as a Toyohai practitioner and has a diploma in acupuncture, which along with her clinical Pilates training enable her to offer a truly holistic approach. Sonia is the physiotherapist and medical co-ordinator for the New Zealand Under 21 Netball team and also works with the Bay of Plenty Steamers rugby team. |

Helen AldersonDip Phty, PGD Manip TherHelen has more than 20 years’ clinical experience and has a special interest in resolving spinal injuries, particularly in older clients. Helen has post-graduated qualifications in manipulative therapy and has studied neuromusculoskeletal physiotherapy. |

Damian BanksBPhty, BSc (Anatomy)Damian returned to his home town Tauranga in 2006 after completing a double degree (anatomy and then physiotherapy) at Otago University. He has recently completed his post-graduate diploma in musculoskeletal physiotherapy and is continuing towards his Masters, majoring in sports physiotherapy as well as a certificate in acupuncture. Damian is experienced with Silicon Coach, a software system used for biomechanical video analysis of movement patterns. He is also a user of Real-time Ultrasound, an innovative modality used for feedback in retraining muscles. Over the past four years Damian has worked with a number of sports teams including Te Puke Sports and Bay of Plenty Rugby Union development teams and the Bay of Plenty Rugby Sevens team.

Tom Wilford - PrincipalBPhys, MNZSPTom gained his physiotherapy degree while in the South African military. His service enabled him to gain experience in a variety of fields, including musculoskeletal, hydrotherapy, respiratory and neurological physiotherapy. Tom has also worked in the United Kingdom in public and private practice. Tom’s areas of interest are manual therapy, exercise-based rehabilitation and sports injuries, particularly the diagnosis and management of shoulder injuries. Tom undertakes occupational workplace assessments and stay-at-work programmes for both ACC and private insurers. His corporate clients include Satara Co-operative Group. |

Nicola ListerBSc (Physio), MNZSPNicola qualified in physiotherapy in the United Kingdom. She is interested in exercise-based rehabilitation in both the clinic and gym setting. Nicola specialises in the rehabilitation of spinal pain and is a registered acupuncturist. She also has experience in clinical Pilates and has experience in respiratory, neurological and orthopaedic physiotherapy. |

Trudie KerriskDip. Phty, Dip. Manipulative Therapy, MNZSPTrudie has 23 years of Physiotherapy experience in Tauranga, Auckland and Pukekohe. This includes working in hospital, community and various musculo-skeletal private practices, giving a wide variety of clinical experience. Trudie has completed a postgraduate qualification in Manipulative Therapy and has continued to enjoy keeping up to date with best practice in the management of musculoskeletal and sports conditions. Trudie and her husband enjoy the great outdoors Bay of Plenty lifestyle, and keeping up with their extended family and friends. |

Roger Athy-Knibbs - PrincipalBSc (Hons) PhysiotherapyRoger joined Body in Motion in 2007 after emigrating from the United Kingdom with his wife and young family. Roger’s expertise is in sports medicine and he has worked extensively with elite athletes both here and overseas. He was head physiotherapist with the London Wasps rugby club when the team won the 2007 Heineken Cup in Europe. Roger has completed post-graduate training in myofascial and visceral release, manual therapy, muscle balance and core stability. He is currently studying towards a post-graduate diploma in musculoskeletal physiotherapy. Roger works with the Bay of Plenty Steamers rugby team, ANZ Magic Netball team, Bay of Plenty Netball and Bay of Plenty Cricket. |

She worked with the rehabilitation team at Whakatane Hospital as a community therapist before moving to Mt Maunganui in 2004. Lucy HammondPGDip Musculoskeletal PhysiotherapyLucy has 13 years experience in physiotherapy. Her postgraduate diploma in musculoskeletal physiotherapy specialised in sports and manipulative therapy. Lucy has a particular interest in treating pain and dysfunction arising from the lumbar spine, pelvis and lower limbs. Her approach to management involves comprehensive muscle balance assessment, manual therapy and rehabilitation programmes to achieve lasting outcomes. |

Since moving to New Zealand in 2003, he has also completed a Masters in Health Practice through AUT. Mike’s interest and expertise is in sports medicine – specifically musculoskeletal screening and assessment to enhance sporting performance, and post operative and injury management to assist athletes in their return to sport. |
